The universal language
We see that music in its various forms provides an excellent vehicle for self-expression, creative endeavour and the building of self-confidence. It is a medium that is at once personally challenging and eminently fulfilling. It is a universal language that speaks from and to the heart.
Music is introduced from the Prep Year and is a regular part of classes from then onwards. Every student in Years 1 to 5 is required to participate in a choir and all students in Year 2 must learn a stringed instrument for one semester. A similar programme for brass and woodwind is offered in Year 4.
Prep's choirs have earned a fine reputation and there is an increasingly strong interest in instrumental music, with our concert bands, stage bands and string ensembles staging regular performances for the school.
Prep offers annual choral scholarships to children with sound academic performance who display musical or vocal aptitude. These scholars form the renowned Choir of the Chapel of St Aidan.
